Mission

The Center helps consultants build profitable practices by becoming client magnets, attracting more and better clients by capitalizing on their expertise and experience and identifying and developing consulting opportunities. The Center is the premier source of ideas and information on consulting for consultants and consumers of consulting in the Southern California area.

We Believe

bulletConsulting is helping people in organizations solve their problems and adding value to the client entity as a result of the consulting intervention.
bulletClients buy solutions to their problems from consultants that they believe are uniquely qualified and with whom they have built a relationship.
bulletSuccessful consulting engagements result from creating a vision of what the organization will look like at the completion of the work as well as an assessment of the current status of the client entity.
bulletSuccessful consulting engagements also require well-thought out change strategies and tactics as well as efficient change management processes.
bulletProfitable consulting businesses result from strategically planning the business to obtain a competitive edge and employing efficient management systems for the major functions of the business.

Consultant Education & Practice Development Programs

In support of the mission and guided by the beliefs above, the Center offers several consultant education programs. The Bill Mooney "How To Build and Maintain A Profitable Consulting Practice" one-day seminar is the foundation program in our consultant education program. This is a contemporary version of a seminar originally developed by the late Howard L. Shenson, the original international consultant's consultant.

Other programs of the Center include: specialized seminars and workshops on other consulting topics, consultant coaching, management consulting for consulting businesses, speeches and articles on consulting topics for consulting, professional discipline, and trade organizations. We also help consulting organizations develop their membership and programs. An extensive consulting resource collection is available for use in our programs and by our clients.

Resources

The Center Office includes a large collection of published resources on consulting and for consultants. These include articles, books, collateral materials, directories, newsletters, periodicals, speech handouts, and tapes - audio and video.

Conferences with clients and small group workshops are held in the new Conference Room of the Young & Associates complex on a schedule-in-advance basis.

History

The Center for Consulting & Professional Practices was established in 1987 by William (Bill) T. Mooney, Jr. as a management consulting to consulting businesses practice. It is a Division of William Mooney Associates (WMA). From 1987 through 1992, the Center was the Southern California licensee for the Howard L. Shenson programs and publications. After Shenson's death in late 1991, the Center has continued to operate on an independent basis. The Center sponsors the one-day seminars entitled "How to Build and Maintain a Profitable Consulting Practice" as well as the consultant coaching, management consulting to consulting businesses, speaking and writing activities of Bill Mooney, principal in WMA and Director of the Center.

The original Division was the Center for the Study of Science in the Two-Year Colleges, through which Bill Mooney conducted his Education in Science in the Two-Year College consulting practice. This practice featured planning science facilities, developing science curricula, professional development for faculty, student assessment, and administrative-faculty-student relationships in Science Divisions.
